Valerie Vizcarrondo Pride is a Maryland-based FEI 5* rider, trainer, and judge, and owner/operator of Blue Clover Eventing at Sudley Farm in West River, Maryland. She is one of the most accomplished all-around equestrians in the United States, having represented the USA as both an athlete and a judge at some of the world's most prestigious competitions, including Burghley Horse Trials, the Kentucky Three-Day Event, the Maryland 5 Star, the European Championships, and Morven Park International.
Valerie is a USEF "S" certified National dressage judge and a Level 2 FEI dressage judge, with the authority to judge through the Advanced and CCI4* levels. She is currently working toward her Level 3 FEI certification, which would qualify her to judge at the five-star level. In 2016, she was the inaugural recipient of the Roger Haller Grant, which supports officials seeking license promotions.
Valerie grew up in Maryland, where she and her sister got their start in Pony Club before finding their home in eventing. Her key mentors include William Fox-Pitt, Bettina Hoy, Callan Solem, Ian Stark, Linda Zang, and Marilyn Payne — a roster that reflects the breadth of her expertise in both riding and judging. Valerie prefers to keep her training program on the smaller side, prioritizing the depth of the relationship between horse and rider.
