Betsy Steiner

International Grand Prix Dressage Competitor • USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medalist • USDF Honorary Instructor • 1990 World Equestrian Games Team Member

Betsy Steiner is an international Grand Prix dressage competitor, USDF Gold Medalist, and USDF Honorary Instructor who represented the United States at the 1990 World Equestrian Games in Stockholm. Co-founder of Steiner Dressage and author of A Gymnastic Training System Using the Mind, Body, Spirit Approach, Betsy has spent four decades bringing horses to the international level and shaping elite riders.

Betsy Steiner's career spans 40 years of training, competing, and coaching at the highest levels of dressage. She is a USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medalist and a USDF Honorary Instructor. One of the defining moments of her career came when she represented the United States at the 1990 World Equestrian Games in Stockholm, Sweden, aboard her own Dutch Warmblood, Unanimous.

Betsy competed in her first Grand Prix at age 20 and has since brought many horses to the international level. She spent two years training under Egon von Neindorff in Germany, an experience that grounded her deeply in classical principles. Her coaching work at the elite level has included coaching Olympian Guenter Seidel for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and coaching Jodie Kelly and Meagan McKoy to a Team Gold Medal at the 2003 NAYRC.

Beyond competing and coaching, Betsy founded Equilates — a sport-specific fitness concept rooted in Pilates principles for the equestrian athlete. She is also the author of A Gymnastic Training System Using the Mind, Body, Spirit Approach, which has sold over 18,000 copies in the US and UK. Her work has been featured in Practical Horseman, Dressage Today, and other leading equestrian publications.

Betsy is based in New Jersey and Wellington, Florida, where she and her daughter Jessie Steiner operate Steiner Dressage together.
